Happy New Year!

Six hours and counting down!

I was visiting with MIL a couple days ago, she said "Except for the election, this has been the WORST year I can ever remember".

Yup, that pretty much sums it up for me too. Maybe it took it getting THAT bad in order to motivate the change. When I think back to right after 9-11, when we were all asking 'what can WE do? -- how can WE help?' how different might things be today if the answer we had been given had been something other than "SHOP" ????!!?! Enough to make you crazy if you dwell on it for long, isn't it?

The good news of the week has been that said MIL is resting comfortably in her own beautiful home, moving between her own bed, her lazy boy, her wheel chair and the bathroom. Since Christmas she has been visited by all nine of her children, and 16 out of 20 of the grandchildren, a sister and her husband, a brother-in-law and his daughter, and a sister-in-law, and many friends.

My 2009 wish for us all is many more days with good health for us all, to spend enjoying each other's company.

And a hope for better days ahead...

Mothers-In-Law

Most of us get em, whether we want them or not. Part of the package with the person we marry. They are often much maligned -- and often for good reasons. Sharing is hard, and few people are actually good enough for our babies.

The Man I Married is the eldest of 9. My future MIL still had six more at home at the time, so she wasn't too worried about losing one of her babies.

She has lived through many hardships that would have sunk me long ago. Yet she continues to navigate her life with grace and patience. And now she's negotiating through the final set of rapids before sailing off into that glorious and peaceful sunset. She's been in the hospital for 10 days now, surrounded by her nine children, their spouses and many grandchildren, showing us all her amazing grace.

Some of us really get lucky with the 'packages' that come with our mates. I know I sure did. I love you, Ma!

Toe Tapping . . .

I am antsy.
No one is posting.
No one is re-mailing.
No one is online chatting!

But then, I have not been a frequent poster myself!
So here I am.
Posting.

With nothing to say, lol
except
I am antsy!

What's YOUR Elf Name?

Your Elf Name Is: Holly Fruit Cake

Son of a nutcracker!

Oh man . . . MizQ has been SICK!
Thanksgiving day dinner was well timed and well cooked and well enjoyed by the Wonder Kid (WK) and her 'new beau' as well as the Big Guy, my parents and my dear husband BS.

My health and memory of events both go down hill from there! A day later BS was sick too. And even tho WK and the beau left Saturday, I have since learned that they didn't get away fast enough to elude the bug. Big Guy, having been the one to bring the bug into our midst the prior weekend, managed to escape being caught by it a 2nd time.

So I haven't been up for much in the way of Holiday Shopping/decorating/prep. I had big plans to put all the help here this weekend to good use, so much for that idea. So I started poking around the blogs and came across this silly little elf name generator. Hopefully 'Holly Fruit Cake' can get herself in gear to start bringing something more than laundry up from the basement soon!
